Carpenter's Lane

Russia, St. Petersburg

Description:

The carpentry lane is located in the Admiralty in the city of St. Petersburg. Its duration is 346 meters, originates from Kazanskaya Street and extends to the embankment of the Griboyedov Canal. In 1779, the lane received its modern name, and before that it was known as the Great Driving Street. The new name was given due to the fact that carpenters from the Admiralty Department mainly lived in this area.

About fifty years of the XX century, the street bore the name of Przewalski, as he lived on this street in the house number six.

The main attraction of the lane is Kokushkin Bridge. House number five is interesting: it is known as the House of Raskolnikov, the hero of Dostoevsky’s novel Crime and Punishment lived here.
