Description:
St. John's Stavropegial convent is the oldest architectural and spiritual monument of St. Petersburg.
St. John's Stavropegial convent is sometimes called "Karposky".
The monastery is located in the city center, near the metro station "Petrogradskaya". In this part of the city is concentrated a large number of buildings in the style of "modern". In contrast, the architecture of the monastery expresses the peace and tranquility of church communities.
Located along the Karpovka River, the strict Byzantine basilica of the Ionnovsk Monastery is striking against the backdrop of pretentious modern buildings. The creator of the shrine, Father John, prophesied this place of fame among believers. The project of the monastery was developed by Nikonov N.N., in May 1900, Father John blessed the beginning of the work. The management of the construction took over the spiritual daughter of Father John - novice Sergeev A.S.
The construction of the monastery took place in 1900. The cathedral, which was erected in just two years, includes 12 apostles. In the temple there are crosses, icons, which are donations. Also here you will find a kiot with gifts from the Holy Land. Pilgrims are not uncommon. Believers come every day to pray and listen to worship.
Divine services are held daily on weekdays and holidays at nine in the morning and at five in the evening.
