pr. Strikek, 45, St. Petersburg

Description:

Kiryanovo Estate is a country house of Ekaterina Dashkova, who was a close friend of Catherine II.

The horseshoe-shaped building keeps a legend known in St. Petersburg, which refers to one country trip of Catherine II - at this very place her horse lost a horseshoe. The Empress was traveling with Dashkova, so she quickly had the idea to build a country mansion in the shape of a horseshoe for her friend. Many years later, the building became a symbol of happiness. In 1975, the Wedding Palace was opened in the mansion.

The name of the estate came from Saints Cyrus and John, on the day of memory of which Catherine II ascended to the throne. First, the people went simplified name "Kir and Anovo", and then the dacha Dashkova and all began to be called "Kiryanovo".

After the death of Dashkova dacha changed a lot of owners. Here opened taverns, literary clubs, factories, and kindergartens. Only in the 1970s the building was taken under the protection of the state and adapted to the Wedding Palace of the Kirov district. In 2007, a branch of the Narva Outpost Museum was opened in one part of the estate, which was dedicated to the history of the Peterhof Road.
