Verey Street

Vereyskaya Street, Admiralty District, St. Petersburg

Description:

It appeared in the XVIII century. The need arose in connection with the third company of the Semenov regiment. The government gave the military a small plot of land in the Admiralty district. The area was designed to build barracks. But the area was not completely occupied, so ordinary citizens settled there.

At first, the street was called the street of the 3rd company of the Semenov regiment. In 1857, a variant was proposed as Vereyskaya Street in honor of the city of Verey. The authorities approved him unconditionally. In the middle of the twentieth century, there was an attempt to change the name. In 1952, Miminova-Sibiryak, who lived on this street, had a 100th anniversary. In honor of him and wanted to rename the Vereyskaya. But the Bolsheviks did not approve of the innovations, and the name remained the same.

In addition to the house of the Russian writer, one of the attractions on Vereyskaya Street is the house in which V.I. Lenin once lived.
