Country Avenue St. Petersburg
Description:
Country Avenue is a large highway in the city center of St. Petersburg, passing from Vladimir Square to Moscow Avenue. The history of the Avenue dates back to August 20, 1739, when Empress Anna Ioannovna signed a decree naming the Great Country Street. The name was due to the fact that the street passed behind the country yards, in 1720 allotted to St. Petersburg residents along the Fountain River. With the further construction of St. Petersburg, the country road was within the city and turned into a street, and later into a prospectus with the same name.
On Zagorodny Prospekt there is Vitebsk (Tsarkoselsky) station. Tsarskoye Selo railway station became the first railway station of the first Russian railway.
The prospectus is associated with the names of famous figures of culture, science and art. On Zagorodny Prospekt there are the Memorial Museum-Apartment of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, the Delvig House, the apartment of the famous doctor Botkin. At one time P.I. Tchaikovsky, M.I. Glinka, A.G. Rubinstein lived on the prospectus.
