Summer Palace of Peter I (branch of the Russian Museum)

191041, St. Petersburg, Summer Garden, Kutuzov Embankment, 2

About the company:

The Summer Palace, a witness to the whole life of Peter I, has survived to this day without significant changes. This is one of the first stone buildings of St. Petersburg, a unique example of the architectural creativity of its founder, which reflected the originality of the personality of Peter I.

At the beginning of the XIX century, the Summer Palace served as a dacha for senior state officials. The museum history of the building began in 1903, when an exhibition dedicated to Peter I was opened in its walls to the 200th anniversary of St. Petersburg.

In 2004, the Summer Palace became part of the State Russian Museum. In 2015-2017, a comprehensive restoration was carried out, which was preceded by the painstaking work of historians and art critics. In the process of restoration, the atmosphere of the royal dwelling of the early XVIII century was restored in the palace. In the exposition of the museum you can see the clothes of Peter I, furniture, paintings and engravings, objects of decorative and applied art of Peter’s time.
