About the company:
It is a unique museum, the only one in Russia. It introduces visitors to the history of circus art.
Opened in August 1928 on the initiative of P.Y. Andreev. The museum funds are based on the collections of Andreyev P.Y., Kuznetsov E.M., Gershuni E.P. In the accumulation of materials, circus artists played a significant role, who donated their family relics to the museum - photos, posters, costumes.
Currently, the museum has more than 80 thousand exhibits reflecting the development of circus art in Russia and abroad. These are fine materials, a unique extensive library of books about the circus in different languages (more than 5000 volumes), relics associated with masters of circus art, costumes, props, including pre-revolutionary ones. The collection of the museum has engravings (XVIII-XIX centuries), paintings, drawings, posters, sculptures, etc. The collection of iconographic material has about 30 thousand units. The handwritten department stores scripts of programs, numbers, attractions.
The materials of the museum attract cultural figures - directors, art historians - and are a source for the creation of books and research on the history and theory of circus art. Circus artists are constantly getting acquainted with the materials of the museum, which is necessary for their creative growth. For spectators, exhibitions are organized in the exhibition hall of the museum, as well as excursions on preliminary applications.
The museum conducts extensive international correspondence and exchange of materials with foreign circus figures and collectors.
