Not far from the embankment of the Smolenka River and the chapel of Ksenia Blessed – the patroness of St. Petersburg is located one of the most cozy and hospitable museums of the city on the Neva – the St. Petersburg Museum of Puppets. One of the first non-state museums in Russia, it was established in 1998 under the scientific and methodological leadership of the Russian Ethnographic Museum. The official opening took place on 31 May 1999.
