About the company:
Chaliapin Museum-Apartment is the last address of F.I. Shaliapin in Russia and the first museum in Russia dedicated to his work (opened April 11, 1975).
Here, on the Pharmacy Island, in the house N2b on Perm (now Graftio) street, the great singer lived from 1914 to 1922, from here in September 1922 went abroad. Leaving, F.I. Chaliapin left the apartment and property in the care of his secretary and friend I.G. Dvorishchin, who lived here until the end of his life (died in the winter of 1942). An accidental call to the Leningrad Theatre Museum saved the great artist’s belongings and archives from imminent death.
In 1991, the Chaliapin Memorial Museum was closed for overhaul. Once again, the doors of the Chaliapin apartment opened for guests on the 125th anniversary of the birth of the great Russian artist - February 5, 1998.
Before visitors there is a world of artistic and human attachments of the artist. The hallway, dining room, large and small living rooms were restored. Recreated the corner of the grimour artist in the Mariinsky Theatre. The main stages of Chaliapin’s life and work are represented by letters and photographs, theatrical costumes and sketches of scenery for the performances in which he played, posters and programs, his personal belongings and household items, painting and drawings.
Of particular interest are the images of Chaliapin in life and in roles created by outstanding artists A.Y. Golovin, K.A. Korovin, A.E. Yakovlev. In the museum you can see the famous portrait of B.M. Kustodiev (1921) - a kind of picturesque biography of the artist, capturing the path of the singer from fair theaters to the best opera scenes in the world. Chaliapin loved this portrait and took it abroad with him. In 1968, Marfa Fedorovna and Marina Fedorovna sent this wonderful masterpiece of painting as a gift to the Theatre Museum.
The museum is closed for repair and restoration work until the end of 2025.
