About the company:

The Lomonosov Museum was established by the decision of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences on May 8, 1947 as a structural unit of the Institute of Ethnography of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Open to the public on January 5, 1949. The expositions were deployed in the upper floors of the Kunstkamera Tower – the only surviving building associated with the activities of M.V. Lomonosov in St. Petersburg. Together with the creation of the Lomonosov Museum, the historical appearance of the Kunstkamera building was restored, which stood since 1747 without the upper tower. The author of the reconstruction project was the architect R.I. Kaplan-Ingel, one of the initiators of the creation of the Lomonosov Museum and its first director.

In 1953 he was withdrawn from the IE of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR and transferred to the newly created Institute of the History of Natural Science and Technology.

In 1993 he was returned to the Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (Kunstkamer) of the Russian Academy of Sciences as a scientific department with the preservation of scientific topics and with its collection fund, photo library, archive, library.
