Military Medical Museum

The Military Medical Museum of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is the successor and curator of the first medical collections of Russia. The year of foundation of the museum: 1942. Its museum collection originates from medical exhibits brought by Peter I at the beginning of the XVIII century, collections of tools of the Master House, exhibits of the Surgical, Pirogov and Military Sanitary Museums. Today, the museum is a unique research, archival reference and educational institution, widely known in the country and far beyond its borders as the keeper of the historical traditions of Russian medicine and its military medical service. According to the wealth of funds reflecting the development of medicine and the activities of its outstanding representatives, the museum is one of the largest in the world. Among the unique exhibits of the museum are collections of paintings, sets of medicines, medical instruments, uniforms of military doctors, medical books, documents, photographs, personal funds of prominent medical figures.

One of the system-forming elements of the Military Medical Museum is the archive of military medical documents, a unique monument to the defenders of the Fatherland. The archive contains more than 60 million items of storage. The museum presents the exhibition "Military medicine of Russia", dedicated to the history of domestic military medicine. The main objective of the exposition is to present the rich collection of the museum to the general public, popularize the accumulated knowledge and experience of domestic medicine, preserve the historical traditions of domestic military medicine Acquaintance with the exposition is another opportunity for schoolchildren to learn the history of their native country; for students - to study the history of medicine more deeply, for teachers and teachers - to make the materials of lessons and classes more interesting and accessible, and for the population to actively participate in the formation of historical knowledge about medicine and natural science worldview, influencing their moral, patriotic and aesthetic education; promoting a healthy lifestyle and necessary measures for the prevention of diseases.
