Space places of St. Petersburg. Let's go!

Description:

Space places of St. Petersburg.

On April 12, Cosmonautics Day is celebrated in Russia, it was on this day in 1961 that the first manned space flight was made!

On the ship "East" he flew around the Earth once in 1 hour and 48 minutes. In St. Petersburg a considerable number of places related to space and its development.

Interesting space places in St. Petersburg! 1. The memory of the Soviet pilot, cosmonaut in St. Petersburg immortalized not only memorial plaques and museum objects, but even named in honor of Yuri Alekseevich long avenue in the Moscow district. Since 1914, this section of the highway was called Narymsky Prospekt, and in 1961 it was renamed Yuri Gagarin Avenue.

Part of the avenue is absolutely straight, so involuntarily there are associations with the runway. The length of the avenue is 4.5 km.

2. Man and Space panel

A picturesque reminder of Gagarin in St. Petersburg can be found on the firewall of the house on Botkinskaya Street. Almost 100 square meters is occupied by a mosaic panel “Man and Space”, created according to the sketches of the wonderful artist Valentina Anopova.

It is not difficult to guess who and what is depicted on the panel - it is Yuri Gagarin who hovers over outer space, which is represented in the form of zodiac signs.

Interestingly, the Gagarin flight took place in 1961, and a picturesque panel dedicated to the man-legend was created only six years later - in 1967.

3. Tsiolkovsky Monument

The monument to Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky was reproduced by sculptor Livon Beibutyan in collaboration with Igor Zabolotsky and Olga Glazova.

A huge granite monument, the founder of Russian cosmonautics, was installed, oddly enough, only in September 2005, although it was supposed to be erected for the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg. It was attended by Elena Tymoshenkova, the great-granddaughter of Konstantin Eduardovich.

The lump of roughly hewn gray granite gradually narrows, gradually taking the shape of the human body. The legs of a person are covered with a blanket, strong hands lie on the open book, the head is slightly reclined, the eye is directed to the heavenly bodies. School teacher, inventor, scientist, science fiction writer, founder of cosmonautics Konstantin Tsiolkovsky thinks about the stars - stars, which thanks to him have become much closer to us.

5. Cosmonaut Club is now a concert hall

Now it houses one of the most popular clubs in St. Petersburg. The building was built in the 1960s immediately after Gagarin’s flight.

The Cosmonaut Cinema was built in 1964 on the site of a kindergarten destroyed after the war and was a typical widescreen cinema. Architects Lenproekt O. I. Guryev, V. M. Fromzel and A. P. Chizh took as a basis the project of the Moscow cinema "Progress" (authors - E. Gelman, F. Novikov, I. Pokrovsky).

On the blank facade, a colorful panel dedicated to the conquest of space has been preserved.

This cinema stands out from all others not only by this monumental composition, made in the technique of sgraffito, but also by the fact that this is the only cinema in the series, located not in the open space among new buildings, but in the close development of the historical center.

In the 90s, the cinema ceased to act as a cinema, and its territories were opened by various institutions (mainly banks).

In 2010, the third floor of the former cinema was occupied by the Cosmonaut Club. The club positions itself as a concert hall. The prefix "cinema" took over the project "Real Cinema", known for its love of art cinema. On weekdays, you can see modern author films and art house here. Film festivals and premiere film screenings are also planned.

6. Central Research Institute of Robotics and Technical Cybernetics

The legendary skyscraper is known to many by the screensaver of the St. Petersburg “Channel 11” (it now operates “TNT”): its studios occupied part of the premises of the once thriving research institute in the 1990s, and in 1995 the channel installed a repeater on the roof, making the 77-meter tower even higher.

In fact (!) there is nothing inside the tower itself: it was needed for testing and was hollow, and all laboratories and offices are in the adjacent building. At first, they intended to test a soft landing system for spacecraft, and in the 1990s they tested a manipulator for the infamous “Soviet shuttle” Buran.

This building in the north of St. Petersburg is popularly called the "Tower of Sauron". An incredible futuristic building serves as a place of work of the Central Research Institute of Robotics and Technical Cybernetics. Within the walls of this building, important scientific work is carried out daily, which inevitably brings the robotic future of the world closer. There is another popular name for the tower. The tower, popularly called "Tulip", was built between 1973 and 1987, architects Savin and Artyushin. In the evening the tower is beautifully illuminated.

7. Lander from Gagarina n

In the courtyard of the Mozhaisky Academy, you can find the famous lander - on similar "balls" or capsules from the sky, the first space conquerors - Soviet cosmonauts - returned to Earth.

The huge iron “tennis ball” is a model spacecraft and a real object of urban art.

It is this apparatus "Zenit" is decorated with a bas-relief with a portrait of Yuri Alekseevich Gagarin. By the way, such space “balls” are not uncommon for the city on the Neva River: devices can also be found in the courtyard of the Military Medical Academy and in Peterhof.

8. Memorial plaque by Yuri Gagarin

In 2011, on the eve of Cosmonautics Day, a memorial plaque appeared on the building of the former Vulcan plant.

The inscription on it says that in 1955, Yuri Gagarin took place here, who only a few years later had to change the course of history, and to drag the scales in the famous space race. On this day, not only the Soviet people rejoiced, but even John Kennedy expressed his sincere interest in further joint work of the USSR and the United States on space exploration. For the good of humanity, of course. ..

Yuri Gagarin before becoming an astronaut studied as a locksmith and practiced at the Vulcan plant. He visited the volcano again after a while, but after a space flight.

9. Metro station "Star"

Located in the southern part of St. Petersburg between “Moscow” and “Kupchino”. Nearby you can find bus stops that will happily take to Pushkin from the city and back.

The station was opened in 1972. It is easy to guess that when creating its hall, the builders were inspired by space themes, in the cash register hall you can even see a statue of Yuri Gagarin. The walls are made of marble of light shade, the walls are decorated with grates with star images. ADRES:M Starry

10. Astronauts' courtyard in St. Petersburg

Not far from the metro station "Chkalovskaya". The courtyard of astronauts is a place that combines all different styles. On the walls of the houses there are maps of the starry sky, constellations, conquerors of all cosmic peaks, including Gagarin, Korolev, Chkalov, Mozhaisky. Their efforts have produced many new open doors, studies of science and progress.

Well, in the lower left corner Peter I himself settled down – he, of course, did not fly into space, but the creators did not deny the involvement of the founder of St. Petersburg in the general progress. On the firewall captured the map of the constellations, not forgetting about the famous first non-stop flight to America, which made Chkalov.

11. Pulkovo Observatory

The legendary observatory in the south of the city will reveal the secrets of space to all curious visitors. Scientists are engaged here in the study of celestial phenomena.

The Pulkovo Observatory is listed as a UNESCO object. To get to the place you will certainly be on Moscow Avenue and Pulkovo highway, almost on the Pulkovo Meridian - the former point of reference for all geographical maps of Russia. Pulkovo Observatory is a unique scientific complex that includes an astronomical museum.

12. planetarium

St. Petersburg Planetarium is the only one of 9 planetariums in Russia, where you can look at the stars at any time of the day and in any weather.

In the Star Hall of the Planetarium is the main apparatus - "Planetarium", which reproduces on the dome the most important astronomical phenomena accessible to the naked eye: the starry sky of the Earth, the daily movement of the sky, the movement of the Sun and planets, nebulae and star clusters and the Milky Way.

In 1957, with the launch of the first artificial Earth satellite, the Soviet Union ushered in the space age. Residents of the country were proud that their homeland was the first in the exploration of outer space. And the discovery of the Planetarium – November 4, 1959 – met the requirements of the time.

In total, the Planetarium has 7 rooms with popular science programs in astronomy, cosmonautics, physics, geography and natural science.

13. Glushko Museum of Cosmonautics and Jet Technology

Within the walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress there is another exposition about Russian cosmonautics and scientists #Leningrad, who left a trace in science.

In the 30s of the last century, this place was a gas-dynamic laboratory, it was headed by Valentin Petrovich Glushko - in fact, the museum is named after him today. There are preserved offices of designers, documents and photos with developments, as well as the devices themselves.
