Big Eagle Cup
Description:
In 1718, Peter I established assemblies – free assemblies for nobles. Women were also required to participate. Here you could meet, exchange news and generally have fun. The situation at the assemblies was supposed to be relaxed and easy. For violation of the established half-joking rules, the offender had to drink the "Big Eagle" - a cup with the image of the Russian state coat of arms, / capacity of 1.5 liters / to the brim filled with strong wine, vodka or any other hop drink. The cup was also presented to late guests as a sign of punishment. This is where the custom of drinking a fine came from. "" The Eagle's Cup can now be seen at Monplaisir Palace in Peterhof.
