Old Believer temple

Description:

Tverskaya

The Church of the Sign of the Most Holy Mother of God in St. Petersburg is a temple of the Old Believers of the Pomeranian Concord.

The temple was laid in August 19, 1906 on the feast of the Transfiguration and consecrated on December 10, 1908 on the feast of the Virgin in honor of the miracle of the image of the Sign, which was in Novgorod.

The temple was built after a manifesto of religious tolerance. The temple complex included a school, a nursing home, a residential house, a chapel and a church. Parts of the church building - the belfry, the gallery and the main volume - were attached to a two-storey building of an earlier construction. The site and construction of the complex were carried out at the expense of the widow of the merchant of the 1st guild Vera Ivanovna Kokoreva with the assistance of the Old Believers society. There was also a garden and a graveyard.

In 1933, the temple was closed according to the decree of the Lengorys Executive Committee No. 126 item 33 of August 16, 1933.

Icons and other church utensils, with the active assistance of the chairman of the community, Pavel Nikandrovich Konchayev, were transferred to the Russian Museum for storage, and not looted and destroyed, as it was with other prayer houses.

During the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, a military unit was located on the territory of the church. Remained traces of the bombing of Leningrad and on the church building.

Later in Soviet times, the church building itself passed into the jurisdiction of the Avtoarmatura plant, which was there until the early 90s.

In the early 90s, by order of the authorities, the building was transferred to the Design-Style group, which was engaged in the design, tuning and creation of cars. From the northern facade of the temple, three entrances to repair shops (boxes) and a garage with an observation pit on the site of the chapel were created.

In 1999, the building received the status of an architectural monument of federal importance.

Since 2005, the building of the church passes to its legal successor - the Nevsky Old Believers Pomeranian community.

The repair is carried out by the construction company Passim LLC. The funds for the restoration of the Church were collected by the Old Believers.

On December 10, 2007, the Church of the Sign of the Most Holy Mother of God was opened.
