Lenin Square in Saransk

d. Saransk, Sovetskaya Saransk Square

Description:

Leninsky Square is considered the most important and oldest square in Saransk. It was founded in 1869 on the territory of the former Christmas Square.

Initially, the square was envisaged as a city garden, where the main vegetation was shrubs, linden and birch. Along the pedestrian paths were wooden benches and swings. The garden was surrounded by a wooden fence. There was a women's school here at the time.

During its “Soviet” existence, the square was often modified. And after the opening of the monument to V.I. Lenin, in 1960, the square was subjected to a colossal reconstruction. In plans, it was conceived to create a single architectural ensemble that unites the House of Soviets, a monument, a square, Soviet Square, the city executive committee, the building of the city council, the square of Glory and the cascade of fountains.

To the 100th anniversary of the birth of Lenin, silver fir trees were planted in the park.

For local residents, Lenin Square is one of the most favorite places of pastime.
