Monument to N.P. Ogarev
Saransk, Republic of Mordovia, Russia, 430,000, St. Bolshevik and Square of Glory
Description:
On the territory of Saransk there are two monuments to the great poet O.N. Ogarev.
Nikolai Platonovich Ogarev is a famous poet, publicist, distinguished by his freedom-loving and revolutionary character. Previously, the poet’s work is romantic, he was fond of Lermontov. At this time, Ogarev writes a series of poems dedicated to the life of the people. But soon, after leaving abroad, the poet rethinks values, and becomes an ardent fighter for justice. In addition to his call to action, Ogarev did a lot for the people: he was a member of the secret society “Land and Will”.
One of the monuments to the revolutionary poet was installed in front of the main entrance to Mordovian State University, located on Bolshevist Street. The monument was opened on December 6, 1984. Nikolai Platonovich is depicted in a sitting position, crossing his legs and pensively peering into the distance. The poet holds a book in one hand. The monument will be made of gray granite, and the sculpture itself is placed on the pedestal.
The second monument to the poet decorates the square of Glory. Here the monument is fundamentally different from the previous one: it is a bust of O.N. Ogarev, mounted on a high pedestal lined with black tiles. The poet, leaning, holds his beard with one hand.
Looking at both monuments, it seems that N.P. Ogarev is deeply immersed in his thoughts.
