Monument to the founders of Saransk

Almost every city has its own interesting origin history and monument to its founders. Saransk was no exception, and on the Fountain Descent, where the fortress was laid in 1641, a memorable sculptural composition dedicated to the builders of Saransk was installed.

In the 18th century on the former Moscow descent towered defensive tower, which soon became the border for the rampart. The fortress was an important strategic object in the south-east of the country, as it was able to deter raids by nomads.

Due to repeated fires in the 19-20 centuries, the city was repeatedly burned down and rebuilt, and its appearance was constantly transformed. Therefore, at present, neither the fortress nor the watchtower were preserved. In memory of the builders of the city of Saransk, there is a monument in the form of a stone on which the bas-reliefs of five men. They are depicted in full growth with a construction tool in their hands.

For local residents, the monument is a pride and a reminder of the history of the origin of his native city – Saransk.
