Monument to Podol cadets

The suppression of Komarov, Gagarin streets and 50 years of October. Saransk, Republic of Mordovia, Russia, 430027

Description:

In the Leninsky district of Saransk, at the crossroads of Komarov, Gagarin and 50 years of October, a monument dedicated to the heroic feat of cadets of the Podolsk military school is installed. The opening of the monument was attached to the 40th anniversary of the Great Victory in the war of 1941-1945.

The monument is a 75-millimeter cannon, which is mounted on a massive concrete pedestal.

More than three thousand young cadets of the Podolsk military school managed, at the cost of their own lives, to stop an entire division of German occupiers who rushed to Moscow. For almost five days the advanced detachment of cadets fought, shedding blood in the name of saving the Motherland. Many young men fell in this battle, but their feat of causing great damage to the enemy became invaluable. In five days, the cadets neutralized and destroyed 20 tanks, 10 armored vehicles, more than 1,000 soldiers and officers of the enemy.

For the manifestation of such mass heroism and courage in the defense of the Capital, Podolsk cadets have a monument that perpetuates their exploits and sets an example for today’s youth.
