Saratov Academic Drama Theater named after Ivan Artemyevich Slonov is one of the oldest theaters in our country.
The history of the theater begins in May-June 1859, when the merchant Franz Osipovich Shechtel established the first literary and musical circle in the city and built a small wooden summer theater with lodges and stalls in his chic country garden. Then the theater burned more than once and was rebuilt, restored, and changed its appearance. Today, on the site of the garden there is a square in which the modern building of the academic drama theater is located.
Currently, the director of the theater is V.V.Petrenko, the main artist is Yuri Nazhestnikov, the lighting artist is honored worker of culture - Dmitry Krylov.
