About the company:
Saratov Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre was founded in 1875. In 1860, the city built a summer theater, which hosted visiting troupes and famous performers. Here in 1875 there were performances of the very first Russian opera company under the direction of theatrical figure of Russia, actor Peter Medvedev.
The first ballet company, which could already be called a professional, was founded in 1928. Such famous ballet artists as Tatiana Chernobrovkina, V.A.Dubrovina and others worked in the theater. Since 1937, V.T. Adashevsky performed in the theater.
From 1975 to the present day, the main conductor of the theater is the People’s Artist of Russia, winner of the state award Yuri Leonidovich Kochnev.
Every year, since 1986, the Sobinov Festival has been held in the theater.
