The church was built with the blessing of the Hieromartyr Hermogenes, the Bishop of Saratov. The project was developed in 1903 by local architect Petr Mitrofanovich Zybin. Construction was completed by 1906.

The building is a stone tent church with three rows of kokoshniks and two symmetrical porches, which very successfully fit into the architectural composition of the bishop’s estate and the center of Saratov. The uniqueness of the church is that the largest tent is surrounded by numerous motley painted small heads.
