The waterfront exists as long as the city itself. At first, in its place there were simple berths to which cargo and passenger ships moored. About its improvement talked in the 1900s. The first work began in 1922. Then according to the plan, the embankment looked two-tiered. The first tier was set aside for debarcaders, the second for the pedestrian zone. The third and fourth tiers appeared in 1958. And in 1962 it was given the name of the Embankment of Cosmonauts.
Today it is a refined coast of the Volga. Ships are also arriving, only passengers. Steamboat tours are designed for walks in the Saratov region and other cities of the Volga region. Between the tiers are made flower beds, on which flowers are planted in the form of the coat of arms of Saratov. Along the paths stretch alleys with gazebos and benches. There are places to play sports. Rollers, cyclists, skateboarders are given special areas.
On the Embankment there is its Alley of Stars, where all outstanding people born in this city are gathered.
