Saratov

Monument to Saints Cyril and Methodius

Astrakhan street, 83, Saratov

Description:

The official opening of the monument took place in 2009. This event coincided with the Day of Slavic Writing. That year, Saratov was the center for major events.

The author of the project was the capital artist and sculptor A. Rozhnikov. He made a monument in the form of two bronze sculptures of Saints Cyril and Methodius. They're over four meters high. The figures are installed on a pedestal made of red granite. Cyril is captured holding a scroll with Slavic writing, and Methodius with the Gospel in his hands.

Around the monument for a long time there were disputes and gossip. After all, the same monument is installed in Kolomna, Moscow region. It was also made by A. Rozhnikov. Only in the Saratov monument he changed the places of the saints and made small improvements.
