Description:

Saratov Reservoir is a fairly large reservoir located on the Volga River. It was formed by a dam of hydroelectric power plants on the square of the Saratov, Ulyanovsk and Samara regions of our country. The reservoir was filled in 1967-1968.

The right bank of the Saratov reservoir is located in the forest-steppe zone, and the left bank is in the steppe zone.

On its coast are the cities of Samara, Syzran, Chapaevsk and many other settlements.

On the left side, the Samara, Sok, Chapaevka, Small Irgiz and Chagra rivers flow into the reservoir.

The total area of the reservoir is 1831 square kilometers, the length is 341 kilometers, and the width reaches 12 kilometers. The maximum depth is about 28 meters.

The reservoir is designed to regulate the flow of the Volga River and its tributaries. It was also created for water transport and energy purposes.

Like other reservoirs on the Volga River, Saratov also has negative consequences for the migration of sturgeon and other fish, and also concentrates environmentally harmful human waste products.
