Oh. The village of Shiryaevo. Ilya Repin Museum

The village of Shiryaevo is one of the oldest and most interesting settlements in the Samara Luka Reserve. Back in the early seventeenth century, the Dutch painter Cornelius de Bruin mentioned him in his notes “Journey through Muscovy”.

Shiryaev Buerak, Shiryaeva village, Shiryaevka, Shiryaevskoe, Epiphany... During its history, the village Shiryaevo has repeatedly changed its name. The first mention of this place in historical documents is dated 1643.

Special in the history of the village is considered to be 1870, when one of the brightest painters of the Russian art school Ilya Repin came here for inspiration. It was here that he made the first sketches of his most famous canvas – “Burlaki on the Volga”.
