Travel to Semyonov (car and pedestrian program)

Semyonov is an ancient Russian city that has an unusual planning structure (as in Paris!) and is not deprived of the originality of the architecture of stone and wooden buildings.

In this small provincial town, our traditional crafts and crafts have been particularly developed. At first, Semyonov became the spoonful capital of the Russian Empire. Wooden spoons of local craftsmen were in demand in Central and Southern Europe, the Near and Middle East. And only later, when wooden utensils began to apply golden painting, the art of Golden Khokhloma was born, which nowadays has gained worldwide fame.

The history of the northern districts of the Nizhny Novgorod region is inextricably linked with the spiritual life of the Old Believers, who founded their first hermitages on the Kerzhenets River. Actually, Kerzhenets has grown and county town, to visit which you and I are going. About the origins, causes and consequences of the church schism of the seventeenth century we will talk on the way to the main goal of our journey.
