Day 1

The Transfiguration Monastery was founded in 1652 on the ledge of the mountainous coast. The monastery stands on the high bank of the Don. Its main building is the Cathedral of the Kazan Mother of God with the upper and lower temples. The monastery was built in the style of the Italian basilica and truly admires its beauty. A feature of the cathedral is the presence of caves dug in the 19th century by the abbess of the monastery, Mother Arsenia, and several other nuns. From those distant times to the present time, a miraculous stone has been preserved on which the Virgin Mary prayed. The stone holds wonderful prints of two narrow palms and knees.
