Ilina
ooh Volodarsky, 2a, Serpukhov, Moscow region, Russia
Description:
The Church of Elijah, or the Church of the Prophet Elijah, was built in 1748 on the site of a wooden temple. It is located in the very center of the city and, forming an ensemble with other temples, very successfully fits into the landscape. The temple is an architectural style of Moscow Baroque, the so-called octamerica on four.
Like many other churches, Ilyinskaya was rebuilt in the 19th century. Then the shape of the domes was changed and the facade was decorated with stucco.
An interesting fact is that the Ilyinskaya Church was the only one in Serpukhov that escaped closure during the Soviet era, that is, it has been operating continuously since its foundation. There is also an old decoration inside the church.
