Prioksko-Terrasny Reserve
Serpukhov district, Moscow region
Description:
The official date of birth of the reserve is considered to be 1861. At this time, the famous botanist N.N. Kaufman discovered rare species of plants on this territory. They called it the “Okay Steppe Fauna.”
In 1944, the territory became part of the Moscow Reserve, and three years later it became an independent park. In the same year, the scientist M.A. Zablotsky starts bison in the steppes of the Prioksko-Terrasnaya and opens a nursery. The first animals were brought from Poland. It is noteworthy that the creation of such nurseries saves the life of bison. They are listed in the Red Book as an endangered species. Bulls cannot exist in captivity and in the wild. In the first case, they die of longing for freedom, in the second they do not always adapt to the harsh climate. Thus, in the reserve breeders give them freedom and at the same time monitor their safety.
More than 500 animals were raised in the park. Some bulls are trained and not afraid of people. There are excursions in the nursery. You can take pictures of them and bring them a treat.
