The Black Tulip Monument
Description:
Monument "Black Tulip" was opened in Zvezdnaya Square on September 2, 2005. It is dedicated to the dead Afghans.
The monument is one of many similar ones that have been erected in many cities of Russia. Its name is symbolic and a bit creepy: the fact that the “black tulip” was called a Soviet plane that transported the bodies of dead soldiers and officers from Afghanistan.
The monument in Serpukhov is a granite stone, in the middle of which a metal tulip painted in black is soldered.
The stone is located on a lawn of ordinary green grass and is only slightly surrounded by small decorative flowers. Probably, that is why live bouquets are very clearly and vividly highlighted on it, which are brought by the relatives of the victims. Very often the stone is decorated with banners and ribbons of memory.
