Russia, Moscow region, Serpukhov, Karl Marx Street, 36

Description:

Sretenskaya Church, or also known under the full name of the Church of the Meeting of the Lord, is an active Orthodox church in the city of Serpukhov, Moscow region. It is protected as a historical monument of federal significance. The church was erected in 1702 in the Moscow Baroque style on the site of its wooden predecessor, which lasted for about a century. Later, a bell tower and refectory were added to it. Before the revolution, a parish school functioned at the temple.

In the thirties, the Sretenskaya church was closed, and the bell tower was completely destroyed. It was returned in the late nineties to the Orthodox Church in an abandoned and dilapidated state. Restoration work is currently underway, but services are already underway.
