The Manor of Christmas-Telejevo
Telyatevo, Serpukhov district, Moscow region, Russian Federation
Description:
The estate in the village of Telyatevo, founded in the XVII century, is famous for the picturesque Church of the Nativity of Christ, built on the site of a more ancient wooden temple. In the XIX century, the estate belonged to the family of counts Sollogubov, a native of which was the famous Russian writer V.A. Sollogub. After the purchase of the estate, the new owners engaged in a serious restructuring of the manor house, and also became famous for their collection of art objects - European painting, graphics and sculptures and bas-reliefs by Western and Russian masters.
The real pearl of the estate complex was the Church of the Nativity of Christ, the only surviving building. Built in 1731 and expanded with new aisles in 1855 and 1912, it became a fine example of Baroque. The temple is a pillarless, cross-shaped building with a semicircular altar ledge. Above the spherical dome stands an octagonal drum crowned with a cupola. Decorative decoration of the facades is quite restrained and does not abound in numerous elements. The architectural composition is complemented by a three-tier bell tower.
After the revolution, the Nativity-Telievo estate, like the rest of the noble estates, was destroyed, and some buildings were taken over by the state farm. The magnificent art collections of the former owners passed into the ownership of the state, and part of the property was lost.
