Description:
Vvedensky Vladychny convent is located in the city of Serpukhov. It was erected by the Moscow Metropolitan Saint Alexis in 1360. According to legend, the foundation of this monastery was preceded by a special miraculous appearance of the Mother of God. In 1362, by the works of Varlaam - the first abbot of the monastery, a stone church was built here, and in 1878 the miraculous icon of the Mother of God The Inexhaustible Chalice was brought to the monastery.
By the beginning of the XVIII century at the disposal of the convent were numerous patrimonies in Serpukhov and Moscow districts. In 1724-1727 it was attached to the Zaikonospasssky monastery, and in 1764, thanks to the manifesto of Catherine II, received the III class. In 1861-1847, the abbess of the monastery was the famous Mitrofania Rosen.
The main shrines of the monastery are the relics of Varlaam and the miraculous icon “Introduction to the Church of the Most Holy Theotokos”. At the beginning of the XX century there were 326 novices and 50 nuns in the monastery. Nowadays, monastic life continues here, and hundreds of tourists and pilgrims come here every year.
