Sestroretsk

Station

Description:

The wooden station of the Sestroretsk station is the only surviving of all the stations built to service the Primorsky Railway.

The initiator of the construction of the Primorsky Railway was the son of an artillery official, a track engineer Peter Alexandrovich Avenarius. At the end of 1889, he created the Joint Stock Company of the Primorsky Petersburg-Sestroretsk Railway.

Construction of the St. Petersburg-Sestroretsk Primorsky Railway was completed on November 6, 1894.

Railway stations are usually the first target of shelling and destruction. The Sestroretsk station surprisingly survived in the Civil, Soviet-Finnish 1939-1940, and in the Great Patriotic War, almost completely preserving its original appearance.

In 2014, the station will be demolished
