Severo-Kurilsk

North Kuril Museum of Local Lore

About the company:

The museum was created by the Komsomol group Magellan in the 60s. During this period, the basis of the exhibits of the public museum were items of weapons, letters of participants of the Kuril landing (August 1945). Gradually, exhibits of an earlier period began to appear - the time of the appearance of the first inhabitants of the Kuril Islands - Ainu, among them household items, tools, jewelry, etc. Of great interest are exhibits telling about life on the islands of the Japanese (until 1945). The museum has an exposition of documents telling about the tsunami tragedy of November 5, 1952, which claimed thousands of human lives and caused great damage to the economy of the region.
