Shakhta Local History Museum

The funds of the local history museum of any city are invaluable - there is literally stored the history of the city, its life and its real testimonies. As a rule, it is the employees of the museum who are the most knowledgeable connoisseurs of the history of their native land. For the city of Shakhty, the local history museum is also of great importance. The year of the museum’s creation – 1966, for more than half a century of the museum’s existence, a colossal work was carried out here to collect and process material. The building of the Shakhty Museum of Local History is also a kind of monument and historically important object of architecture. This building is still pre-revolutionary, once there was a parish school. The architectural features of the ancient building create an expressive historical atmosphere in the museum - the dome ceiling and unusual elements of internal decor make you instantly immerse yourself in the past at the entrance to the museum.
The five halls of the museum are divided by theme and period. The exposition of the first two halls tells about the history of the city - about the Cossack and philistine life in household items, documentary evidence, photographs and works of art. The next two halls of the museum are dedicated to the events of the Great Patriotic War - weapons, personal belongings of soldiers, photographs and documents are stored here. In the last exhibition hall of the museum, expositions are often replaced, concerts and creative evenings are also held here. One of the permanent expositions of the museum is dedicated to the Don nature and contains many stuffed animals and birds that live in these parts.
