About the company:

It was created in 1968 on a voluntary basis. The foundations are based on shuyan gifts. The most interesting collections: oological, decorative and applied art of the XVIII - XX centuries, paintings of the XVIII - XX centuries, textiles of the XIX - XX centuries, personal documentary funds of the Shuyans of the XIX - XX centuries (merchants, manufacturers, public figures, private individuals). Since 1993, the museum has been working on the formation of the foundation of K.D. Balmont - a famous Russian poet-symbolist, a native of the village of Gumnischi of the Shui district. Visitors are attracted by the location of the museum. It is located in an old building (former City Duma) in the historical part of the city. From the west side of the museum are the remains of the ancient Kremlin of the city, known since the middle of the XIV century; from the north - an architectural ensemble of residential buildings of the Classicist era; from the east you can see the Trade Rows and the bell tower of the Resurrection Cathedral (106 m) - the highest in Europe of free standing. The exposition and exhibitions of the museum convey to the visitor a rich information material about nature, history, shuyan occupations; the art department presents ancient porcelain and portraits of both academic school and provincial artists. The leading direction in the research work of the employees is currently the topic “Shui House: life and customs of citizens for centuries”.
