Slavgorod City Museum of Local Lore

In 1958, V. G. Zhemerov founded the People’s Museum. For many years, the room-museum was located in the building of the city House of Culture.

October 6, 1978 – the collections were placed in the building of the trading office of the merchant Selyutin, built in the early twentieth century.

Currently, the museum has more than 23,000 exhibits that reflect the history of the city and the district. Museum ethnographic collection includes household items and clothes of immigrants. Visitors are presented with unique collections of cameras and film cameras, samovars, musical instruments, numismatics. Letters from the front, awards, documents tell about the participation of Slavgorod citizens in the Great Patriotic War. The Nature Department introduces visitors to the flora and fauna of the region. In 2005 the exposition was supplemented by the Department of Archaeology.

Since May 1997, there is an exhibition hall, where exhibitions of artists of the city, district and region are held. Every year there are exhibitions of decorative and applied creativity, photo contest “The city in which I live”.

More than 15,000 people visit the museum every year. More attention is paid to military - patriotic, moral - aesthetic education. Thematic lessons, talks, lectures, lessons of courage, meetings with veterans of the Great Patriotic War, veterans of local wars, home front workers are held for school students. Scientific and research work is being carried out. The museum has 17 clubs of veterans of labor of enterprises and organizations of the city, widows of participants of the Great Patriotic War, home front workers.

In 2006, the museum became the winner of the competition for the best exhibition project of the regional festival "Museum Crossroads".

In 2010, within the framework of the regional museum ethno-festival “We live in the Altai” participated in the competition of cultural and educational projects “Altai – at the crossroads of cultures”, where they defended the project “Tula samovars on the Slavgorod land”.

Every year the museum team takes part in the International action “Museum Night”.
