Spiritual shrines of ancient Smolensk. Excursion to the city of Smolensk

During the tour, you will be able to see for yourself that the Orthodox treasury of Smolensk impresses with its unique shrines, the spiritual and historical significance of which is difficult to overestimate.

I will show you our main temple – the Assumption Cathedral, where such shrines as the Smolensk Icon of the Mother of God “Odigitria”, the shroud of the 16th century, the iron sandals of St. Mercury of Smolensk are kept. In the cathedral there are also two icons that myrrhage.

I will tell you about the saints who glorified Smolensk and the whole Smolensk land. We will see three active monasteries and ancient temples of the 12th century. In the church of Michael the Archangel, you will have the opportunity to hold a thin brick of plinth, from which temples were built in Ancient Russia, including in Smolensk.

We will walk along the fortress wall along the embankment of the great Dnieper River, in which Rus was baptized. Today on the embankment stands a monument to the Baptist of Russia – Prince Vladimir.

If we go on a tour by car, we can also visit the sacred place of Smyadyn, where in 1015 the first Russian holy prince Gleb was killed.
