Smolensk

Excursion along the Old Smolensk Road to the ancient Dorogobuzh (with a visit to the Gerasimo-Boldina Monastery)

Description:

It is impossible to imagine our Smolensk region without the Old Smolensk Road or, as it was also called, the Ambassadorial Road.

You will get a real pleasure, driving through the hilly terrain and surveying the picturesque surroundings. How not to recall the lines of Bulat Okudzhava: “On the Smolensk road – forests, forests, forests. On the Smolensk road - pillars, pillars, pillars. And, indeed, on our way there will be mileposts, numerous villages, and places of memory, where we will remember the events of 1812 and the Great Patriotic War.

In Dorogobuzh we will climb the ancient rampart, from where an unforgettable view of the Dnieper opens, on both banks of which the city stretches.

You will have the opportunity to take a photo against the backdrop of the largest globe in Europe, which is installed next to the largest enterprise in the Smolensk region - a plant for the production of nitrogen fertilizers, as a reminder to all of us about how important it is to take care of our planet!

And at the end of our route, you will visit the holy monastery surrounded by forests, the Holy Trinity Gerasimo-Boldin Monastery, where the relics of St. Gerasimos, the great ascetic who shone on the Smolensk land, rest.
