... 1868 promised Smolensk a lot - the construction of the Rigo-Orlovskaya railway began. In the village of Gnezdov, work went on as usual, when suddenly... Suddenly a lot of silver coins with inscriptions fell from under the shovel of one of the workers; and outlandish jewelry - hryvnias, bracelets, pendants with images of strange people and animals. It was not possible to hide the find from the workers, and after a short time it was already admired in the capitals.

So began the history of the archaeological complex, today - the largest in Europe, now included in the museum - Gnezdovo Reserve.
