Country tour with a visit to the former estate of Princess M.K. Tenisheva - historical and architectural complex "Teremok" in Flenovo.

Our tour begins on the p. Victory, near the monument to the Liberators of Smolensk. We are going to the street, which now bears the name of M. K. Tenisheva, the princess, public figure, collector, philanthropist,

We come to the museum "Russian Antiquity", the building of which was built in 1905 at the expense of M. K. Tenisheva. Turgenev regretted that he did not have time to write a story about her, she posed for Repina, Serov, Korovin and Vrubel. Contemporaries called her “the hero of our time” and “the pride of all Russia”.

From here we will make a trip to the country estate of Tenisheva - Talashkino (about 20 km from Smolensk). On the road - a tour with a story about the fate of this great woman, her contribution to the history and culture of Smolensk and Russia as a whole.

The estate itself has not survived to this day, but the Flenovo farm, one and a half versts from Talashkino, which Maria Klavdievna acquired in 1894, is now the historical-architectural complex "TEREMOC" - there we go.

Maria Klavdievna created a very special creative atmosphere in Talashkin, which attracted many artists, musicians, scientists. There were often artists I. E. Repin, M. A. Vrubel, K. A. Korovin, N. K. Roerich, J. F. Tsionglinsky, A. N. Bakst, sculptor P. P. Trubetskoy, scientists A. V. Prakhov, I. F. Barshchevsky, V. I. Sizov, musicians V. V. Andreev, A. D. Medem and many others.

Frozen in bronze, the figure of M.K. Tenisheva meets you near the entrance to the Flenovo Park.

One of the attractions of Talashkino is the famous fabulous house “Teremok”.

This log structure, designed by Sergei Malyutin, is a true masterpiece of Russian small architecture.

Windows, doors, cornices, casings - all skillfully cut, openwork cut. Bright coloring, fabulous motifs on the facades create an image festive and fantastic.

In "Teremka" you can see the products of Talashkin workshops and, of course, the works of those who brought Talashkino fame - furniture made according to the sketches of S.V. Malyutin, watercolors of M.A. Vrubel, ceramics of N.K. Roerich, painted balalaikas that made a splash at the World Exhibition in Paris.

In the building of the former agricultural school, an exposition dedicated to the school for peasant children, opened by Princess M. K. Tenisheva in 1894, is presented to the attention of visitors.

The exposition includes items of school life, textbooks of the late XIX – early XX centuries, photographs, lists of students and much more. A separate hall is dedicated to the school theater, in which the princess took a personal part.

A whole period in the life of Talashkino is associated with the name of Nicholas Roerich. To this day, one of his best monumental creations has been preserved - a magnificent mosaic "The Savior Not Made by Hands", made by the artist over the portal of the Church of St. Spirit.

Today, all the surviving buildings of the former Tenishev estate are included in the historical and architectural complex "Teremok" of the Smolensk State Museum-Reserve.

On the territory of the complex we will visit the famous fairy-tale house "Teremok", the building of the former agricultural school, where the attention of visitors is presented the exposition dedicated to the school for peasant children, opened by Princess M. K. Tenisheva in 1894 (if desired), as well as walk through the picturesque territory of the complex and its surroundings.

The territory is gradually acquiring the appearance that was under Princess M.K. Tenisheva. Apple gardens, picturesque lake, also if you wish, you can take a picture in a haystack or sit in a princely stroller.

There is a pottery workshop on the territory of the complex. The study of Talashkin traditions made it possible to produce unique ceramic products based on the Tenishev workshops with traditional symbols. These author's handmade products can be purchased as a memory of visiting Talashkin.

There is also a real forge in Flenovo. You can see for yourself how iron takes shape on the anvil. The forge welcomes guests with the sounds of a hammer and its unique products, which you can also buy as souvenirs.
