Peter and Paul Church
Smolensk, railway station district
Description:
The Church of Peter and Paul is one of the three preserved monuments of pre-Mongol architecture in Smolensk. It was built in 1146 under the Smolensk prince Rostislav Mstislavich. Subsequently, the church was rebuilt and even partially destroyed.
In May 1935, the church was liquidated and services ceased there. Only in 1991 the church life in this architectural monument resumed.
The Church of Peter and Paul is included in a large temple complex, on the territory of which there are also the Church of the Holy Great Martyr Barbara of the XVIII century and the temple buildings: the Orthodox Book store, workshops, office premises. The territory of the complex is fenced with a white stone wall.
The temple complex is located between the Smolensk station and the bus station on Marcel Kaschen street.
