Church of the Holy Spirit

The Church of the Holy Spirit was built in 1900-1905 in the village of Talashkino – in the estate of Princess Tenisheva, known for her charitable and educational activities. It is assumed that the princess herself took part in the development of the project of the future church. Nicholas Roerich was engaged in painting the temple, but he did not have time to finish the design because of the war.

Now the church building is located on the territory of the village of Flenovo, is part of the architectural complex "Teremok". It gives the impression of a monumental building. From a wide base of low height, the composition passes to dynamic and fractional forms of kokoshniks rising in rows. At the very top of the temple is an onion headboard.

The revival of the Kokoshnik motif is not accidental. Artists were searching in the direction of the revival of ancient Russian traditions, the restoration of the original Russian forms, lost, in their opinion, in the XVII century.
