Memorial Museum-Estate of M.I. Glinka

The Museum-Estate of M.I. Glinka in Novospasskoye is the only memorial museum of the great composer in the world. The small homeland played a decisive role in his life and musical fate. Here he was born, spent his childhood and adolescence, received his first education, here his powerful talent was born. In total, the composer spent seventeen and a half years in his native estate. The house in which the composer was born did not survive, on the site of the old, grandfather’s, his father built a new two-storey wooden house with a portico and columns.

The museum-estate was opened in May 1982. Now it is one of the cultural and historical centers of Smolensk region. Since 1958, in Novospassky, the closing of the All-Union Music Festival named after M.I. Glinka has been held, since 1981 the museum has been receiving laureates of the Glinka International Vocal Competition, concerts of soloists of the Smolensk Regional Philharmonic Society are held.
