S.T.Konenkov Sculpture Museum

The Museum of Sculpture of Sergey Timofeevich Konenkov is dedicated to a bright original artist, an unexpected and original thinker, whose name is known, without exaggeration, to all connoisseurs of beauty both in Russia and abroad. The museum was opened in Smolensk on April 30, 1973 on the initiative of the sculptor himself. The choice of the city was not accidental, since it was here in the Smolensk region in the village of Karakovichi that the future great sculptor was born. The master was sensitive to his creations, worried about their fate, he wanted to have in his homeland not only individual works, but also a large collection, a museum of sculpture. 41 works of Konenkov were transferred from the artist’s studio in Moscow, which marked the beginning of the exposition of the future museum. “I give my art to my dear fellow countrymen,” wrote Sergey Timofeevich Konenkov on this occasion.
