THE ETHIOPIANS COUNCIL – HISTORICAL MUSEUM
Description:
Often on excursions we are asked whether to go to the Smolensk Historical Museum? Of course I am.
Want to see the caroling swords found in the Gnezdovsky archaeological complex? What does the amphora-korchak look like? Perhaps you are interested in frescoes of temples of the XII century? Or do you think of our lost stone architecture? Need information about the mysterious rotunda that stood on Varyazhki? Do you wonder what weapons the defenders of the Smolensk fortress fired at the enemies during the siege of the city? Looking for information about Smolensk-Decembrists? Simple! All this, much more and even the skeleton of a mammoth you will find in our beautiful historical museum.
By the way, it is the oldest in the Smolensk Museum-Reserve: it was opened by the Smolensk local historian Semyon Petrovich Pisarev in 1888. Now only the exhibited part of the archaeological collection relating to the ancient history of the Smolensk land is 1500 exhibits. The exposition of the museum is full of unique objects and relics and allows you to deal with all significant moments of Smolensk history.
The museum is open from 10.00 to 18.00 daily. It is very important that in the historical museum, the day off is Friday, not Monday, as is usually the case. On Thursday, the historical museum closes an hour earlier – at 17.00. Keep in mind that on all days of operation, the cashier closes 30 minutes early. Sanitary Day is the last Thursday of the month. In October it was already, and in November it will fall on the 28th.
