New tour! Birds and Beasts of the Lopatinsky Garden

Description:

Informative biological walk in the center of Smolensk with entomologist Oleg Semionenkova n

Cries of birds and animals, how often do we pay attention to them in the bustle of the city garden? Often they are completely inaudible to us behind the noise of the rides, but does this mean that there is no one here but us? If you look closely at nature, you will see dozens of its inhabitants living near us.

A walk through the central park of culture and recreation "Lopatinsky Garden" will give you the opportunity to talk, for example, about the squirrels that live in the enclosure. Together we will understand what kind of animals they are and how to make their stay in an urban environment comfortable, whether it is possible for squirrels to run freely in the center of Smolensk, and whether they can pose any danger to humans. In addition, we will discuss what other animals can be housed in parks without harming them, but to the delight of visitors, and how to do it correctly.

How many bird species can you count in the park in summer or winter? 5-7? In fact, 10-15 is an achievable number. We will arrange our own mini-birding, count birds, talk about their habits, understand why ducks and terns are natives of our reservoirs, and handsome swans are “foreigners”, so their survival depends on human care. How these birds can be used to decorate parks, as well as how to feed them better, we will understand on the spot.

What species of crows live in the squares and parks of cities, where they are best to look, and what importance they play in nature. Is it worth fighting those who tirelessly bombard the heads of passers-by with their excrement, and how best to do it?

And, of course, we will not pass by our friends - blue pigeons, we will be amazed at how friendly to us and everyone's favorite "gulls" can be dangerous, insolent and destructive to other species of birds.

Come, it'll be interesting!

The tour will take place on Sunday 22 September at 12.00.
