Mount Akhun
Description:
Mount Akhun (663 meters above sea level - Big Akhun) stands out against the background of the second peak - Small Akhun (501 m) and a vertical cliff of limestone and sandstone - White (Eagle) rocks. In fact, it is a short (5 km) ridge parallel to the sea.
In the mountain range there are caves, one of them is called Akhunskaya. From the tower, built in 1936 (architect Vorobyov), you can see the peaks of the Main Caucasian Range and the coast.
The exact etymology of the word Akhun is unknown, but there and now lies the sacrificial stone of the Ubykhs - a tribe that later converted to Islam ("Akhun" in Arabic - a priest).
Not far from the tower, a new Ferris wheel was built, raising those wishing to 701 m above the sea. Climbing the mountain from the stop Small Akhun is quite realistic on foot - the climb is simple, an asphalted serpentine road goes to the top, the curves of which can sometimes be cut along a steeper path.
