Volkon Gorge

Volkon Gorge is a kind of natural open-air museum. There are mysterious and rare exhibits, for example, the unique and only monolithic block in the Caucasus - the dolmen. About its functionality, the scientific world is still building its theories.

According to one version, it is believed that the dolmens served as tombs, which were prepared by ancient people during their lifetime. The dolmen is a stone birdhouse, on the outside a circular hole is hollowed out, through which you can see the entire space with a ceiling in the form of a dome or hemisphere. On the roof of the stone building there is another hole 60 centimeters deep.

The prehistoric building is protected by the state. They come from all over the world to see him. Locals consider it a place of power, and people with supernatural abilities conduct rituals near it.

Also near the Volkon gorge there is a hydrogen sulfide spring with mineral water "Macesta". Another exhibit of the gorge is a grotto called “Two Brothers”. According to Adyghe legend, two brothers lived, one fell in love with a girl, but it was an unequal marriage, so one of the brothers wanted to turn into a stone. The girl suffered and turned into a river, the older brother also suffered and blamed himself for the tragedy and turned into another stone.

Volkon Gorge is adjacent to another attraction - Samshit Gorge. They are separated by the highway. Samshit gorge is a relict forest where the fauna of the tertiary period grows, as well as a plant in honor of which a depression is named - boxwood.
